Sprinting in Hatfield & in FleetFreedom Tri Triathletes have continued to be successfully competing in a variety of races. Rob Sedgwick and Tanya Willmott were competing at the Herts Sports Village in Hatfield on Sunday in the HSV tri. This is a popular local event comprising of a 400m pool swim, followed by a 1 lap flat 20km bike, finishing with a 4 lap 5km flat run. This is seen as a great opportunity for an early season race to blow the winter cobwebs away! Rob was returning to the event, after suffering a big bike accident there in 2011 and he was the 1st finisher from Freedom in 85th place in a time of 1.22.21. Whilst Tanya finished in a very pleasing 171st place in 1.39.00. Kieran Feetham was competing in the Fleet Tri and scorched to 37th place out of 370 and 15th in his Age Group. This race was a 400m swim, 20km cycle and 5k. As the races fastest swimmer he was lucky enough to have a lane to himself, which helped him to a great swim time. During the cycle Kieran nearly came a cropper on the bike when a driver nearly knocked him off his bike, however he managed to break in time when HE had the right of way. The run was a full cross country with a waterlogged muddy path to follow and have to wade through a stream and over some fences. His time was 1.09.46. 3 from Freedom Tri Qualify for World Duathlon ChampionshipsA weekend of rain left numerous Freedom Tri athletes without an event to compete it. However this weekend a third member of Freedom Tri has been confirmed as qualifying for the ITU Duathlon World Championships in Nancy in September. Simon Jackson is joining Tash Pitman and Geoff Russell at this prestigious event. With Freedom Tri being a young triathlon club it is very pleasing for 3 people to be competing for Great Britain. I am sure they will all do the club proud 2 Freedom athletes confirmed for World Duathlon ChampionshipsSunday saw 3 Freedom duathletes competing in the World Duathlon Championships qualifier in Cambridge. With the incentive of a big race in Nancy, this race produced a really good quality field for the 7.5km run, 40km cycle then 7.5km race. Geoff Russell in the 60-64 age group qualified AGAIN for the Worlds by finishing a fantastic 3rd place in his age group. His winter of training and other early season duathlon races helped him finish in a very impressive time of 2.29.05, easily booking his place for the trip. Geoff will be competing in this event for Great Britain, for the 3rd year in a row and will be joining Tash Pitman from Freedom Tri in the World Championships in Nancy in September. Simon Jackson was the first Freedom finisher in 22nd place overall in 2.06.45, which was a quicker time and better placed than in the same race in 2011. Freedoms race machine, Tim Gilbert was very pleased with his 12th in age group finish in his first season of duathlon racing. His time of 2.21.08 was 8 minutes quicker than a race of a similar distance recently |
