Who Position Forum username About

Kev Smart

Chairman Geordie Kev Been racing multisport events since 2001. 9x IronMan, 5x GB age group team at long distance, club founder member and currently the 2nd best triathlete in my house. Would be 3rd, but the dog can’t ride a bike. Good at putting up shelves.

This season targeting IronMan number 10 at Barcelona in October and as many of the club races as scheduling allows.

Contact me anytime about anything that doesn’t come under anyone else’s remit.

Richard Underwood

Secretary Underwood625 I have been a member of Freedom Tri for the past three years and have really enjoyed the experience within the club across training, racing and supporting.

Since being with Freedom, I have completed the London Marathon (2014), the OSB 5km Big Swim and Ironman Staffordshire 70.3 (both 2015) as well as numerous other events in Freedom Colours.

My goals for the coming season are to take on the Big Cow series (sprint and middle distance hopefully) and also tackle the Freedom organised races.

Ultimately my ambition is to complete an Ironman having been inspired by the numerous first time and multiple Ironmen in the club

Emma Kinsey

Treasurer EmmaK I started triathlon 3 years ago in Darlington and found Freedom Tri when we moved back to Hertfordshire

Love the swim, love the bike, survive the run!

Goals for this year are completing the Cowman which will be the furthest distance I will have done – I think I’m looking forward to it, although I’m already dreading the run (see above!!)

Contact me for all financial related issues, including sending me invoices etc!

James Knight

Membership secretary jknig4 My job is to answer queries from people who are interested in joining the club, giving them details, organising try-outs, then helping them through the joining process (with Rob’s help).  It’s quite a bit of work, but it’s great because I get to tell people how brilliant Freedom Tri is!

I completed the Great North Swim in Windermere in 2009 and my open water swim odyssey began.  This led to me hearing about Freedom Tri swimming in the pit and the rest, they say, is history.

Last year I completed the Long Course Weekend in Wales (effectively Ironman Wales over 3 days) – the full Ironman will have to wait until my kids are a bit older.   This winter, I’ve had my first season of competitive cyclo-cross racing.

My plans for 2017 are evolving.   I’m hoping to do the MK Sprint in May and want to follow whatever plan it is our coaches come up with.  I also hope to do some wild swimming in the mountains again!

Gareth Sharp

Website & Comms Gruff Started running in 2010 to shift some timber, Gruff picked up a running injury after his first marathon in 2012, and accidentally stumbled into multi-sport after being advised to swim or bike to retain a bit of fitness while recovering from injury.  Gruff joined Freedom in 2013 and joined the committee in 2014.
Goals for 2017: To PB at the Brighton marathon, get back to triathlon, follow the “master plan” and smash the Emberton Sprint and the Bedford Team Sprint Relays.

Kitman Toonarmy20 I’m Rob, I don’t train much and race even less.

I’m going to Germany for challenge Roth IronMan distance in July! Fingers crossed!

Adrian Robinson

Press secretary & race results Adrian Robinson I have been racing for 17 years and with Freedom Tri for 5 years.

Over that time I have completed over 70 running & triathlon events and proud to say have never DNF! Being a recent convert to Cyclocross means I can now get my racing fix throughout the year. And if I’m not racing, I’m probably sticking a long camera lens in your face to capture your hard won PB’s.

Looking ahead to this years race season I might even be tempted to ‘go long’ and tackle half iron. Who knows, with the guidance of our excellent coaching team it might just happen!

Sara O’Callaghan

Social secretary SaraOC I joined Freedom Tri two years ago as part of Freedom’s Tri Triers novice triathlon training course. This was a great introduction to Triathlon and the majority of us went on to become full members and have taken part in a large number of events since.

During my time with Freedom I have competed in Sprint, Olympic and Half Ironman, The River Arun Swim and a local sportive.

I’m currently training for London Marathon and plan to complete another Middle Distance later in the summer.
